You might not have known, but these are a thing that exist. And they are amazing. I am a very novice “cyclist” and the other day on a ride my brother in law handed me one of these. Amazing.

Kinja'd!!!

They do taste good to. Imagine grinding up come coffee beans in your mouth, and then drinking straight maple syrup, but without the chalky texture of coffee beans.

I miss my bike. I’m yet to get a replacement part.

Buying a Lapierre was a mistake... I should try to get rid of it... maybe the sales staff at a store might like it as a niche thingamagig

I love those. But man...they’re messy if you don’t rip them right!

Not as bad as Honey Stinger gels. I glued my mortgage papers together with those.

What happened?

Also just let the self fall into the cyclist stereotype of having a collection of bikes. I’m up to 7  Currently altho 2 of them aren’t in riding condition. One is just an older bike that I haven’t maintained because I have a third bike that fills the same roll, an around town cruiser in this instance. And another is a 40s hawthorn that I bought with a bent fork, dismantled, and haven’t put back together... in 5 years...

but I have a GT BMX, a Maruishi Fixie, a Cannondale road bike, an Rocky Mountina MTB, and a Schwinn cruiser that I could hop on right now. Gotta have options.

I could see that. He brought a zip lock bag to put the empties in too. He’s good at thinking ahead. I would have ended up with syrup in my jersey pocket for sure.

A PB&J  with honey is my perfected riding snack.

I have not tried those. I have a box of chocolate cliff shots I still need to get through. I tried gue for the first time in 1995 when it was invented. Gels   really changed cycling nutrition.

I never got into the gels. I like to bring along some fig newtons and something salty to go with them. Then there are times when I bring along something for everyone.

I have a wall of bikes myself. Rideable ones include a Cannondale Super-V, a Redline Conquest, and an old Schwinn World Sport. I still have a couple of frames hanging on the wall, a Schwinn MTB and a Cannondale R600 with a bent chainstay. Then there are the three other bikes for my wife and two kids....

What happens is that there’s a bicycle triopoly in Mexico: It’s either Trek, Specialized, or Triciclos apache.

So, getting spares for anything other than those brands is hard to say the least. Lapierre doesn’t even sell bikes here, so it’s doubly hard.

I bent the hanger... again. But it takes a shit ton of time for it to arrive, since the company that makes it is in Israel.

Ba ck in my day, the ‘70s &’80s , we’d have a last bottle of 1/2 espresso and 1/2 cognac for time trials. Tasted awful but we could breathe and had a lot of energy for the last half hr or so at full output. Times have changed, I guess. Maple Surple is a favorite of mine.

Yeah I imagine that would be hard, at least it’s not integrated so it is in theory a replaceable part.

Trek is still the number 1 bike in my area,  but my Rocky Mountian is the only one I bought new. The other are all used.

It’s kind of great. I’ve always been into collecting, and I will never be monetarily Susessful enough to have a car collection, but bikes are “ cheap” especially when you buy used. My mountain bike is the only new bike I’ve had since I bought a Schwinn Bmx from Walmart then I was 13. Which I ended up trading to a kid with a used Trek because he liked the blue on my bike.

That’s a unique solution for “ bike packing”..  you could put all the gear in one bike and that person would die on big hills

I know what you mean. I’ve purchased exactly one bike brand new. Well, the Redline was purchased as a frame brand new, but all of the components were transferred from the R600. I bent that frame and needed a replacement.

I always wanted to do some touring, so when my kids got too big for the trailer, I converted it into a flatbed .

This isn’t mine, but it’s what I have in mind.

Nice! I want to do a few trips this year. 60-100 mile rides to a campsite come home a few days later. But I have quite a bit of training to do first. I’ve never done more than 30 miles in one go.

I know, but a ganger would cost me 3x more than what it should cost.

I’ve done the MS-150 from Houston to Austin (It’s more like 180 miles) and I try to ride my age on my birthday every year (it’s over 45 miles now). I’m in really bad shape since I started traveling for work. I’m hoping they will approve an apartment so I can store one of my bikes locally and start riding again.

180 miles in one day? That’s insane.

No. Two days. Day one was 100 miles, day two , 80. If you hear a cyclist mention a “century” they are talking about 100 miles in a day. A “metric century” is about 62 miles in one day. Average riders can complete a full century in 7-8 hours. I clung onto some better riders for the first half of the MS-150 and managed to finish the century in 6. The leaders finished day one in 4  hours.

Yeah, I plan tryng to solo a  local 62 mile “cent” loop by the end of the month I’m just waiting for the weather to get warmer. The last ride I took it was still 27 degrees. That was painful, I cut it short and only did 10 miles.

I don’t blame you for cutting a cold ride short. I once got caught as a front moved through and the light rain turned to sleet. I was riding without any rain gear and I didn’t have a cell phone to call my wife. That was an awful ride, but it was memorable!

100 miles is 4 hours is fast. The longest ride of done by myself was 30 and I averaged 17mph. So they were doing at least 8mph faster. I don’t think I’ll ever be that fast. Mostly because I’m not not willing to diet strictly enough.

Average for 100 in 6   hours is a little over 16 mph. That’s fairly easy if you’re in shape. A 5 hour century is 20 mph, hard to do for the average rider without a group . A four hour century has to average 25 mph. Really hard.
